The Fall Musical has come and gone. This November, the MAHS Theater Department performed The Unsinkable Molly Brown. MAHS was one of the schools chosen out of the whole nation to receive a grant for this show from the Educational Theatre Association. This grant recognizes shows/productions that honor women’s strength and gender equity, which are key in Molly Brown’s story.
Following along with this idea of “woman empowerment,” MAHS’s production highlighted this idea by having a female-heavy cast and talented members playing both male and female roles. Here is the cast list!
Molly Brown performed by Jennie Odello, JJ Brown performed by Zach Dietz, Arthur/Senator Burton/Hichens/Judge Ben Lindsey performed by Joshua Price, Vincenzo/Senator Smith/Rodolfo performed by Wesley performed by Zach Zimmel, Senator Simmons/Mimi/Baby Doe Tabor performed by Aria Chatters, Senator Newland/Miner 2/Birdie/Maud performed by Anne Marie Schneider, Senator Fletcher/Miner 3/Pearl/Louise Sneed-Hill performed by Anna Demetriou, Nelva/Mary Nevin performed by Angela Albrecht, Emma Stetson/ Maureen O’Shaughnessy/Ensemble performed by Echo Schaeffer, Senator Nelson/Miner 4/Ensemble Performed by Braelyn Logan, Senator Perkins/William/Ensemble performed by Kalyssa Mae Miller, Father Robinson/Governor/Reporter/Ensemble performed by Isabelle Morris, Horace Tabor performed by Jackson Hallman, Fred Bonfile performed by Joe Ferriero, Newsie/Larry performed by Maggie Vlamnick, Kit performed by River Reed, Immigration Officer/Ensemble performed by Aubrey Price, and our lovely ensemble troupe performed by Maggie Vlamnick, Bria Grimm, Jayne Lesmeister, Marissa Devries, Anja Nordquist, and more.
The musical was performed on Thursday, November 14th, and Friday, November 15th, at 7:00 pm, and Saturday, November 16th, with a matinee at 1:00 pm and an evening show at 7:00 pm. All shows gained quite a large audience, with each viewer feeling like they were on the Titanic themselves, receiving a ticket with a real-life person on the Titanic. After the show, they could see if they had survived the Titanic or, like a good captain, went down with it.
Now that the Musical has ended, the One Act season will start. Auditions were held on November 21st, and we now have a cast for the show: Yerma. If you want to hear more about One Act, watch out for Greta Conroy’s article in our printed and online edition. We wish the team the best of luck this season!
