The spring sports season is about to kick off. Girls Golf will start on March 17th. Returning as head coach, Jacob Torgerson has high hopes for athletes this year. He said, “My number 1 goal would be to have a high number of girls out for golf once again. My second goal would be to have at least 4 girls break 50 in a 9 hole round. Lastly, another goal is to have multiple girls qualify for both days of sections this year. ” This is Torgerson’s second season coaching this team. When asked about his first season as coach he stated, “All of last year was very enjoyable. With it being my first year coaching golf and coaching girls it was honestly a good learning experience for me. It involved some of the older girls helping me through the season and taking feedback as much as I could to try and make it an enjoyable season for everyone and I hope that it was. I look forward to the improvements made over the course of last season and into the summer to reflect during this season. With the girls having a better understanding of how I operate I am excited to be able to get started (hopefully outside) and take off and run with new info, new training tools, and new ideas for the girls to experiment with on the course. We are looking to build off last season and have a very fun spring season!”
When interviewing two returning girls Golf team athletes, we learned a bit about last season. Katlin Gibson stated, “Some highlights from last year were when I made it to day two of sections and when I lost four balls on one hole in Sauk Centre. I really like our coach and he did pretty well for his first year coaching.” Freshman golfer, Alice Mahoney told us, “One highlight from last season was breaking a hundred at our practice for sections. I felt Torg was a good coach who is funny and friendly during practices. He helped me improve my golf etiquette in a golf meet. I look forward to improving my scores over last year and maybe making it to day two of sections.”
As you can see, the girls team is excited for the upcoming season! Coach Torgerson has brought a fresh perspective to the team. He revealed some exciting news when he shared, “This year, Jeremiah Day will be an assistant and junior high coach. It will be great to have someone else to help with day to day stuff and another coach with experience to bounce ideas off of whether it be golf related or not. I am excited to have Jeremiah join the program.” The team is happy to welcome the new assistant coach!
