The New Tiger Phase
By: Abi Alcantar
News is that a new Tiger has come to stay!
The decision for a new Tiger logo has been on Mr.Monson’s to-do list since our Activity Director, Mr.Karas, came to our district. Previously around 2017, our football team began using a new Tiger logo. This logo became very appealing to the public, community and staff; slowly, this eventually became our own logo! That was until our school received a cease and desist letter. Nonetheless, our district was able to compromise an agreement allowing us to have 5 more years for using the logo. This however was not a permanent solution.
Therefore, a committee was created! The designer committee consisted of Mr.Monson (Superintendent), Mr.Karas (Activity Director), Mr.Ferreiro (Logo Designer), Mr.Miller and Mrs.Maras (Technology Advisors), Mrs.Viss
(Social Media Manager), and Mr.Sayles (Baseball Coach). This committee created a series of original logos
which were sent out to staff and student leaders. The responses from the first drafts, on a scale of 1-10 (1 being disliked and 10 being really liked), were 4. The committee took the responses critically and designed another series of logos. These again were sent for people to vote on and the responses on the second time were 7! After the decision for only one Tiger logo was made, the committee encountered the issue of our school website. Following other districts around our area, the need for a new letter logo also became apparent. Thus, the new MA logo came into play. From there the committee brought the issues to the school board who approved the movement for the new logos!
The next phase became the implementation of the new logos into our systems. The easiest/quickest way to begin the change began with the free stuff. The committee called a staff meeting where Mr.Miller provided a launching video (similar to a Windows launching video with a vault opening to reveal the mystery) to showcast the new logos. From there, staff members were encouraged to update their socials, email footnotes, websites etc. In the sports world, as new uniforms are needed, the new logos will be implemented then. In the near future, our district will slowly update the physical logos like the scoreboards, chairs, and eventually the gym floors. Our school website has temporarily closed the online shop, but a new one is also on the way!
On the contrary, our Student Council is very excited to announce the opening of our in-school shopping store on March 4th!!! At the Morris Area Tiger Shop, you’ll be able to buy shirts, hoodies, crewnecks, caps, hats, stickers, cups, mugs, water bottles and many many more items! The Tiger Merch store will be located in the High School, across from the main office (concession stand)! The hours are: Monday-Friday 3:30-4:30. And it will also be open during some school events! All the items will be as affordable as possible. Any profits will go directly to the Morris Area Student Council. Morris Area currently has 3 student councils: Elementary, Middle (7/8th Grade) and High School. Profits are used for students and student activities only. Some items may profit other school groups or teams – you’ll see that information on the product description. You can also make orders online at matigers.com. If ordered online, the store does not ship items at this time. Items can either be picked up at Morris Area High School once you receive an email stating that the item is ready for pickup, (you may add a different pickup person to your order when you checkout). Or orders can be delivered to a Morris Area student by completing the student name and information on the checkout page when you place an order. The merchandise on the Morris Area Tiger Shop website is official merchandise of Morris Area Tigers and Morris Area Schools. Merchandise on other websites may not be legitimate or endorsed by our school district. Returns for defective products will be accepted. Please contact the shop within 5 days of purchase. The shop will not accept returns for any other reason. In the near future we hope to also have a school supply section that will have pencils, notebooks, etc. and a snack bar similar to the ones at concession stands. Along with that, you can email Joe Ferriero at [email protected] with any questions or concerns.
Without furthermore, as the former Vice President of our Student Council, I hope to see you at the inauguration on March 4th!
