The results for the MSHSL One-Act subsections and sections tournament are in. Morris Area High School, who performed their One-Act cutting of Agnes of God for the competition, placed first in the North subsection out of eight schools. Since they placed in the top four schools of their subsection, they were then entered into the sections tournament along with three other schools in their subsection who placed second, third, and fourth. The remaining four schools entered into the sections tournament were the top four from the South subsection.
The results for the sections tournament were posted the Saturday after both subsections placements were announced. Central Minnesota Christian School placed first overall at the sections tournament, Morris Area High School placed second, Pipestone Area High School placed third, and Russel-Tyler Ruthton High School placed fourth. The section champions, Central Minnesota Christian High School, advanced to the MSHSL state tournament, a showing of the best One-Act plays in the State.
Agnes of God, the One-Act play MAHS performed, is the story of a young nun named Agnes with a troubling past who goes to a court-mandated psychiatrist named Dr. Livingstone. Through scenes with Agnes and Mother Miriam Ruth (the mother superior of the convent), Dr. Livingstone slowly unravels the truth about Agnes’ past. The cast, crew, and director are all proud of the art they have created in their interpretation of the show, regardless of their placement in tournaments.
The team looks forward to the next One-Act season; they are hopeful they will have a “normal” competition year without Covid restrictions.
