ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Albuquerque police are investigating a deadly crash in the North Valley after a motorcycle rider was killed in a collision at Menaul Boulevard and Broadway Boulevard, N.E. Officers were called to the intersection at 4:40 p.m. and found that the crash involved a blue 1997 Jeep and a motorcycle.
According to the Albuquerque Police Department’s Fatal Crash Unit, the Jeep had been traveling west on Menaul and stopped in the left-turn lane while waiting for traffic to clear. Investigators say the rider was behind a van in eastbound traffic before the collision occurred. The motorcyclist died at the scene from his injuries.
Police say Jeep was turning left when the motorcycle moved into the far right lane
APD said the Jeep driver saw a gap in traffic and began turning left at the intersection. At the same time, the motorcycle rider behind the van changed lanes into the far right lane of eastbound traffic and accelerated forward.
The motorcycle then struck the passenger-side rear of the Jeep, police said. The impact proved fatal for the rider. APD has not released the rider’s name, and the department has not identified the Jeep driver in the information it provided.
